It was a fun hike/climb. My wife and I booked an excursion to the “top” of Mt. Liamuiga while visiting St. Kitts on a cruise. The hike itself is fairly strenuous, especially for those that are not in good health or fit. During the last mile there is about ft in elevation gain and you are scrambling, using roots to pull yourself up, etc. it definitely surpasses the definition of hike.

The morning we were due to hike up to Mount Liamuiga, an extinct volcano in St Kitts, I woke up with that sense of nervousness – coupled with excitement. FYI, this hike is totally doable if you’re able to scale rocks but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t the physically hardest hike I’d ever done.

There is a well-established route that goes up the west side of the mountain, but that path only reaches the rim of the crater and not the summit itself. Armed with a machete and a GPX track provided by the very informative SKN Trails website , we had no issues finding the trail from the main island road at Harris Village.

Mount Liamuiga is a 1,metre (3, ft) stratovolcano which forms the north-western part of the island of Saint Kitts. The peak is the highest point on the island of Saint Kitts, in the federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and in the entire British Leeward Islands, as well as one of the tallest peaks in the eastern Caribbean archipelago.
